“I started to do landscape drawing, mostly in the Adirondacks in the summer, around 2010. I could no longer just look at the landscape I lived in: by April, 2012 I finally took to paint,” says Chinian. “All my work is done ‘plein air’ … I use the ‘sight-size’ method where I line up the painting next to the scene so from where I put my eye the panel and the scene are the same size and right next to each other. It’s the method I learned for cast drawing. I make panels with cotton canvas glued to Masonite, then “sized” with Hyde glue and use artist oil paint. Painting takes from 1 to 3 hours, and often as much time to prepare, find the spot and compose the scene.”
